Young Buttoneers (Ages 4-1st Grade)
Young Buttoneers is for kids ages 4-1st grade and is being taught by Patti Crities. This group primarily uses videos, games and crafts to keep the attention of kids who are just beginning to learn how to read and who are too young to sit still very long at a time. Primary focus for this group is on developing an understanding of basic Bible concepts while helping kids to develop socially. Interacting during pizza time and in the meeting helps to encourage fellowship among the kids. Kids learn to enjoy coming to church and to enjoy learning new things. Small rewards for accomplishments serve as an introduction to the concepts of setting and reaching goals. Kids who complete first grade successfully are then moved up” to the Junior Buttoneers group. Junior Buttoneers (Grades 2-3)
Junior Buttoneers is specifically designed for kids in grades 2-3 and is being taught by Jason & Katie Stout. Most of these kids can read enough to actually enjoy the same type of lessons as the older kids, and slower readers seem to benefit from being placed in a situation where some reading is being done but pressure is not put upon them (reading aloud in the group is optional). Focus is on introducing them to the Bible in a way that is fun and shows them how interesting and exciting the Bible can be. Kids are taught how to work toward and reach specific goals (requiring more than one meeting to accomplish), character building, and learning how to work in teams. They have a chance to earn some of the same awards as the seniors. Those who complete 3rd grade are then “moved up” to the Senior Buttoneers group.
Senior Buttoneers (Grades 4-6)
Senior Buttoneers is specifically designed for the pre-teen group, who are harder to challenge than the younger kids and is being taught by Diana Russell & Dionne Pitman. Learning the same old lessons, in the same old way, year after year is boring. With today’s technological resources, there is no reason to stick with the old, boring ways of teaching. We primarily use multi-media and games in our teaching, which has proven to be both fun and highly effective. Focus is on using the Bible to teach leadership, teamwork, goal-setting and character building. Kids have an opportunity to earn Bibles, bookmarks, pins, T-shirts, certificates and other awards. Kids learn to make decisions and participate in running the club. Those who complete 6th grade are then “moved up” to “Christians in Action” (CIA), which is the name of the youth group (grades 7-12).
Jr. & Sr. High Youth Group The 7th to 12th grade youth group is taught by David Taylor.
